How it works

One run, four decisions that matter

MTGR is easiest to understand as a game-night loop. You do not need to learn the full rules before starting.

  1. Draft a run deck

Bring your own Commander pool, choose commanders, and draft the cards you will carry into the run.

  2. Beat encounters

The Host escalates pressure through encounter rules, Affixes, Doom, and other run systems.

  3. Spend or push

Use Town to stabilize and upgrade, or Stay Out to keep momentum and accept more risk.

  4. Keep progression

Cash out rewards and carry persistent unlocks forward so the next run starts from a different place.

Choose your seat

Play the party or run the world

Players and Hosts share the same run, but they need different preparation. Pick the path that matches your seat.
